Director of Philanthropy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Fundraising Strategy: Develop an annual and multi-year development plan to achieve financial targets, including major gift campaigns, direct mail appeals, and online giving initiatives.

·       Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective donors, current residents, their families, and local stakeholders. Cultivate a "culture of philanthropy" within C-WV.

·       Event Planning: Plan and execute fundraising events (e.g., golf tournaments, galas, "Spring Gala in the Garden," senior art fairs, plant a tree, memory walks).

·       Grant Writing: Research and identify potential funding sources, including government grants, foundations, and corporations that support senior services.

·       Database Management: Utilize CRM software (e.g., Matrix) to track donations, maintain donor records, analyze giving trend and report on fundraising performance.

·       Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all fundraising activities comply with Massachusetts legal and ethical regulations. Prepare reports for the Board of Directors on fundraising progress, maintain accurate grant records, budgets, and documentation to support audits and internal reviews.

·       Public Relations: Write newsletters, impact reports, and press releases to enhance the reputation of the Foundation. Ensure consistent, mission-aligned storytelling across all philanthropic channels. 

·       Applies “5 Star” customer service approach in all aspects of job.

·       Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

·       Reports to the appropriate managers any known or suspected violations of policy and procedures, regulations or standards of conduct.

·       Attends required in-services and training.

·       Performs additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

·       7 years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related fields.

·       Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or business.

·       Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on public speaking and storytelling.

·       Familiarity with Massachusetts philanthropic trends and regulatory requirements.

·       Experience in a healthcare, aging services, or CCRC environment is ideal.

·       Relationship-driven, strategic thinker with a high level of professionalism and integrity.

·       Demonstrated commitment to donor-centric advising and the ability to build trusted, long-term relationships with donors and philanthropic partners.

·       Knowledge of compensation practices, conflict of interest policies, and ethical standards applicable to nonprofit organizations.

·       Understanding of fiduciary responsibilities, including stewardship of charitable assets and adherence to legal and ethical obligations.

·       Familiarity with privacy and confidentiality requirements, including the appropriate handling of sensitive donor, client, and organizational information.

·       Commitment to transparency and accountability in communications, decision-making, and reporting.

·       Strong judgment, integrity, and ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.

·       Active member of PGGNE (Planned Giving Group of New England).

·       CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) certification preferred.
