Carex is partnering with a BioTech industry partner to identify a Lead SAP Developer responsible for guiding SAP technical design, development, and delivery while mentoring a team of developers and managing development demand through a structured intake and prioritization process. This role collaborates closely with functional leaders, architects, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure SAP solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives while maintaining high standards of quality and end-user support. This is a Direct Hire role and will be onsite several days a week in either Madison, WI or Redwood City, CA.

What You'll Do

• Lead SAP technical design and development initiatives while guiding a team of developers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
• Manage the SAP development intake process, consulting with business stakeholders to triage requests, assess priorities, and align development efforts with organizational goals.
• Coordinate day-to-day development priorities and ensure efficient workload management across the team.
• Mentor team members on project challenges, best practices, and lessons learned to strengthen technical capabilities and delivery outcomes.
• Lead delivery of medium-complexity software projects, ensuring alignment with implementation plans, timelines, and quality standards.
• Guide workflow design, support system build and testing activities, and analyze technical issues associated with SAP applications.
• Conduct final reviews of workflow documentation, technical designs, and supporting materials to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, project leadership, and vendor implementation teams to ensure solutions meet business needs and project objectives.
• Develop documentation including gap analyses, process flow diagrams, and decision tables to clarify requirements and solution options.
• Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and external vendors to ensure clear communication and successful project outcomes.
• Participate in project meetings, track progress, and regularly communicate status updates, risks, and milestones with stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot technical issues, support end users, and identify opportunities to improve workflows and system functionality.
• Identify and implement system changes and enhancements to improve performance and usability.
• Promote strong collaboration across cross-functional teams while applying structured problem-solving and decision-making approaches.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a High School Diploma/GED with additional relevant experience supporting technical development, systems delivery, or project implementation.
• 5 years of experience in a hands-on technical role such as systems development, technical project leadership, or application development.
• 2 years of experience serving as a subject matter expert in SAP development or related enterprise systems.
• Strong experience in core SAP ABAP development including Classical and Object-Oriented ABAP, Function Modules, BAPIs, BADIs, enhancement frameworks, reports (classical, ALV, OOPS ALV), interfaces and IDocs, and forms such as Adobe Forms or SmartForms.
• Experience working with ABAP on HANA including CDS views, ADBC, AMDP, performance tuning, and SQL tracing or optimization.
• Experience managing SAP development intake, evaluating incoming requests, and prioritizing work based on business value, technical complexity, and delivery timelines.
• Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) including environments such as Cloud Foundry or Kyma and development frameworks such as CAP or RAP.
• Experience with SAP integration technologies including CPI, iFlows, OData services, REST APIs, and integrations with S/4HANA, BTP, and third-party systems.
• Understanding of event-driven architecture, asynchronous messaging, and API-driven integrations.
• Experience with modern SAP deployment models including RISE, extensibility approaches (in-app and side-by-side), and clean core principles.
• Familiarity with SAP Fiori development, including extensions, AdaptUI, Elements, or freestyle applications.
• Knowledge of the RAP model and clean core architecture principles.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving business requirements, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
