What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tree Climber Foreman position at Caretaker Landscape and Tree Management?

Position Summary:

The Tree Climber Foreman will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled landscape and tree tasks. As a field crew working Foreman you will direct a landscape tree maintenance crew with a scheduled maintenance route, schedule and assign daily tasks to ensure tasks are complete to customer’s expectations.

  • Monitor sites and provide recommendation for improvement to Supervisor
  • Oversee and maintain safe working conditions, conduct safety tail-gate meetings, ensure proper personal protective equipment is being used, correct equipment techniques and roadside safety adherence
  • Maintains tools and equipment to ensure safety
  • Constantly promote and adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Ensure the job meets or exceeds job budget and customers' expectations
  • Finishes the work efficiently thereby improving gross margin
  • Review and approve crew member timecards
  • Process daily/weekly timecards, employee change forms, vacation request, reviews
  • Recommend new hires and terminations to Supervisor
  • Understanding of basic hand and/or power tools or equipment to direct a wide range of landscape and irrigation duties
  • Understanding of plant vegetation, grads, digs, and DG
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently
  • Communicates well with others using basic English or Spanish
  • Provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, work-site partners, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Other duties assigned by management
  • Working in the high Arizona desert heat where temperatures could get as high as 120 degrees.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies

  • Excellent communication and follow up skills, written and verbally
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities

Education/Experience/Licenses

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Tree Climber Foreman or in a supervisory role - required
  • High school diploma or equivalent - required
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable motor vehicle record - required
  • Experience in a broad range of tree and climbing equipment - required
  • Proficient with technology including tablets, smartphones and computer software programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook - preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills - required
  • Strong work ethic – required

Work Environment:

  • Will work entire shifts outdoors in the Arizona desert environment which includes extreme temperatures and weather conditions including sun, rain, snow, wind
  • Will be in direct sunlight for extended periods of time on a daily basis

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • In this role you will frequently stand, walk, climb or crouch on narrow and/or slippery surfaces; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects; walk for long distances and on sloped ground and uneven surfaces; move, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles
  • Ability to work full shifts outdoors in all types of changing and extreme weather conditions including direct sun, extreme heat including temperatures over 100 degrees for more than one hour at a time, cold, rain and snow
  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound
  • Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, and landscaping construction equipment where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level

Work is performed locally in assigned area - Reliable transportation needed to daily commute to assigned local jobsites
