Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and comfort
- Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates
- Support medical staff with procedures like catheter care, wound dressing changes, and specimen collection
- Ensure patient safety through proper manual handling techniques and safe lifting practices using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary
- Maintain detailed medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems while respecting patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Monitor patients’ conditions closely, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to nursing staff or physicians
- Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare teams to enhance overall care experience
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations such as geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized dementia or Alzheimer’s care
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care
- Ability to perform basic life support (BLS) certification and CPR confidently in emergency situations
- Experience working in various healthcare environments including hospitals (ICU, trauma centers), long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or home health settings
- Strong caregiver communication skills to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and provide compassionate patient service
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting and manual handling tasks necessary for patient transfer methods and mobility assistance
