About the Role
This is a full-scope finance and people operations role, both critical functions for a scaling organization. You'll own the complete financial picture while building the HR infrastructure that enables growth. As CareSet grows, Finance and HR/People Ops will eventually separate into distinct roles. This Director serves as the strategic operator holding both until scale warrants specialization, a high-impact position with clear growth trajectory.
The successful candidate demonstrates:
- Systems Enforcement: Designs and implements processes for annual budgeting, forecasting, and monthly close that stick. Ensures deadlines are met, follow-ups happen before slips occur, and accountability is consistent across the organization.
- Financial & Detail Mastery: Manages full accounting closes, builds quarterly forecasts, and analyzes gross margin drivers while simultaneously tracking multiple HR initiatives across the organization. Excels in balancing tactical execution with strategic thinking.
- Recruiting Coordination: Has managed hiring pipelines end-to-end, maintained candidate relationships, and ensured hiring managers are prepared and accountable. Takes initiative without prompting and understands the cost and importance of effective hiring.
- Culture Leadership: Views training and development as core to company culture, not just compliance. Builds capabilities in management, communication, and financial literacy across the organization.
- Trusted Operator: Earns trust from employees in HR matters, from managers in financial and people decisions, and from leadership in handling sensitive information. Demonstrates consistency, fairness, and composure under pressure.
- Financial Acumen with Communication Skills: Comfortable with P&Ls, cash flow analysis, and variance reporting. Can translate financial data into clear narratives for non-financial leaders and help the organization understand how operations drive financial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Board Reporting: Owns monthly P&L close and variance analysis. Prepares quarterly financial reporting to the board. Builds rolling 12-month cash flow forecasts. Identifies trends in gross margin, COGS, and OpEx. Delivers board-ready financial dashboards and strategic narratives.
Budget Development & Monitoring: Partners with leadership to build annual budgets aligned with company strategy and EOS Rocks. Monitors actual vs. budget performance monthly. Surfaces variances early and recommends adjustments.
Recruiting Pipeline Management: Coordinates job postings, candidate scheduling, interview logistics, and onboarding processes. Partners with hiring managers to ensure consistency and intentionality. Tracks hiring metrics (time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, offer acceptance rates) and reports on pipeline health.
Accounting Operations & Controls: Manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and reconciliations. Manages or leads accounting team members. Ensures GAAP compliance and audit readiness. Owns tax planning and filings. Establishes financial controls and approves expenditures within delegated authority.
Policy & Compliance Management: Maintains employee handbook, benefits administration, and financial policies. Ensures employee awareness and manager adherence. Establishes and updates financial controls and procedures.
External Partner Integration: Works with external HR consultant and financial advisors to implement best practices. Translates recommendations into operational reality across the organization.
Performance Review & Development Ownership: Drives quarterly review cycles from end to end: scheduling, reminders, completion tracking, and filing. Ensures no manager or employee falls through the cracks. Develops and implements a lightweight management training curriculum and ongoing leadership development programming.
Right Person, Right Seat Leadership: Serves as internal advocate for EOS's RPRS framework. Guides managers through identifying fit issues early, navigating decisions consistently, and documenting outcomes. Uses financial metrics (utilization, project margins, billable hours) to inform people decisions.Working Capital Optimization: Monitors cash position, receivables, and payables. Improves collection and payment cycles. Coordinates with clients on invoice timing and payment schedules.
Distinguishing Qualifications
Strong candidates will demonstrate one or more of the following:
- EOS Framework Fluency: Understands the EOS operating system, and the financial metrics that drive quarterly Rocks. Implemented EOS HR (RP/RS, Quarterly Check-Ins) and financial practices within a company actively operating on the EOS framework
- Built or significantly improved a quarterly performance review system with high manager adoption
- Managed monthly financial close, variance analysis, and reporting to executive leadership or a board
- Managed recruiting pipelines end-to-end with measurable improvements in efficiency or quality
- Hold SHRM-CP, PHR, or CPA/accounting certification
- Held integrated HR and financial management responsibilities in a growing organization
