Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience/qualifications in the range of $55,000 - $75,000 (including any stipend to help cover healthcare benefits coverage costs)

About the Organization

Dubois County Cares is a nonprofit, 5013c organization dedicated to empowering young people to be alcohol and drug free throughout Dubois County, Indiana.  CARES engages with teens, parents and our community to support and contribute to positive daily choices. Through education, skill-building clubs, and collaboration, we want to lead our youth to be alcohol- and drug-free by empowering and fostering a safer, healthier Dubois County.

As we continue to grow our impact, we seek a mission-driven and fundraising-savvy Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is the top leader of Dubois County Cares and is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the organization, with an emphasis on managing the execution of key substance use prevention and education grant programs and executing resource development and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director (ED) is a compelling advocate for youth, an experienced fundraiser, and a dynamic organizational leader. Working closely with the Board of Directors, Committee members, volunteers and other community entities, the ED will drive fundraising efforts, oversee program and operational management, and cultivate relationships with donors, community stakeholders, other partners and the general public to further the organization’s mission.

Leadership & Advocacy

  • Serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the organization, passionately conveying the needs and strengths of the youth served.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with youth, families, community partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Board on long-term strategic planning to deepen impact and expand services.

Operations & Financial Management

  • Manage the organization’s daily operations, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual budget; monitor financial health and ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and support staff, contractors, and/or volunteers, fostering a culture of accountability and inclusion.

Fundraising & Resource Development

  • Develop and execute a robust fundraising plan focused on individual giving, major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and fundraising events.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, foundations and corporate partners committed to youth development.
  • Lead grant writing and proposal development in coordination with staff or consultants.
  • Oversee donor database and acknowledgment processes to ensure timely and meaningful engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Board to leverage their networks and fundraising capacity.

Grants Management

  • Manage substance use prevention and education programming grant projects that support the organization’s long-term strategy.
    • Define and maintain adherence to scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, and success metrics.
    • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key grant partners including FSSA, School leaders, Probation staff, and the Prosecutors Office.
    • Ensure grant projects are delivered on time and within scope.
    • Work with program evaluators and CARES staff to ensure the grant programs are properly delivered and evaluated for impact.
    • Analyze grant program data and support changes to increase impact and adjust project as needed
  • Identify risks, remove barriers, and find solutions that align with grant programming and organizational goals including building a plan to sustain programs.
  • Provide updates to the Board and stakeholders, often preparing reports, dashboards, and presentations on progress and outcomes.

Board Relations

  • Act as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors; provide regular reports and updates on fundraising and program progress.
  • Engage the Board in strategic planning, governance, and resource development.
  • Assist with Board member recruitment and development, prioritizing diversity and youth-centered leadership.

·    Bachelor's or advanced degree in nonprofit management, preferably in a related field, or related experience equivalent

  • 5 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit or youth development sector, with a proven track record in fundraising, donor engagement and grants management.
  • Deep understanding of issues affecting youth and a passion for empowering young people.
  • Demonstrated success fundraising and grants management.
  • Strong leadership, project management, communication, marketing and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with and engaging students, school administrators and parents.
  • Familiarity with youth-centered program design, outcomes measurement, and substance use/abuse issues is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible schedule, occasional evenings and weekends required for fundraising events and community engagement.
  • Some travel may be required for meetings with funders, partners, and conferences.

The compensation range for this position is $55,000–$75,000.
