About The Position
Massage therapists at Spa by the Sea provide customized treatments based on each guest’s requested pressure, areas of concern, physical condition and wellness goals.
Our ideal candidate combines strong massage technique with warmth, professionalism, reliability and excellent one-on-one communication.
Because we serve guests in a resort environment, therapists must be comfortable working with travelers, couples, repeat visitors and clients who expect attentive, polished service.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional massage and approved body treatments
- Customize each treatment according to the guest’s needs and preferences
- Discuss pressure, injuries, sensitivities and treatment goals before beginning
- Maintain consistent quality and attentiveness throughout the full appointment
- Follow all contraindications and remain within the professional scope of massage practice
- Educate guests about appropriate spa services and retail products without using high-pressure sales tactics
- Maintain accurate, confidential service records
- Prepare, sanitize and reset treatment rooms between appointments
- Follow strict draping, privacy, sanitation and professional-boundary standards
- Assist with appointment communication when requested
- Communicate professionally with reception, management and fellow therapists
- Help maintain a calm, clean and welcoming spa environment
- Build positive guest relationships that encourage repeat visits
- Active California Massage Therapy Council certification in good standing
- Current professional massage liability insurance
- Training and experience in Swedish and therapeutic massage
- Ability to perform deep-tissue work safely and appropriately
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology and massage contraindications
- Excellent verbal communication and guest-service skills
- High level of ethics, integrity and respect for professional boundaries
- Dependable, punctual and professionally presented
- Ability to maintain guest confidentiality
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small spa team
- Availability for some weekends, holidays and high-demand periods
- A genuine passion for helping people relax and feel their best
- Sports massage
- Assisted stretching
- Hot-stone or other approved spa modalities
- Experience serving resort or luxury-spa guests
Massage therapists who also hold an active California esthetician license are especially valued.
The ability to provide both massage and authorized skincare services may create additional scheduling and professional-growth opportunities depending on qualifications, availability and business needs.
A REALISTIC LOOK AT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
Spa by the Sea is an independent spa operating in an established Newport Coast resort setting. Therapists work inside professional spa treatment areas; massage services are not performed on the coastal cliffs or beach.
The surrounding location is beautiful, but success in this position depends on much more than the setting. Therapists must deliver consistent treatment quality, remain on schedule, communicate clearly and provide attentive service to guests with resort-level expectations.
Appointment demand may vary by resort occupancy, day of the week, holidays and season. Applicants should not assume guaranteed daily bookings or a guaranteed number of appointments unless specifically stated in a written offer.
