Manual Test Engineer

Overview

JMA Solutions, LLC, a management consulting firm in Washington DC, is seeking a talented and motivated Manual Test Engineer to develop products using cutting edge technologies as part of a large modernization effort that has significant industry focus.  You will be an integral component of a team of passionate and enthusiastic IT professionals.  The successful candidate will have extensive experience in software development, integration with different systems, software release management, and operations.

Position Summary

As a Manual Test Engineer, you will be creating test plans and cases, testing user interfaces and functionalities from an end-user perspective, documenting and reporting defects to developers, and collaborating with the team to resolve issues and improve the user experience. 

Duties

• Test Planning: Develop and review test plans, test cases, and test scenarios based on software requirements. 
• Test Execution: Manually execute test cases on various applications, including web and mobile apps, to verify functionality, usability, and performance. 
• Defect Management: Identify, document, and report software bugs, errors, and inconsistencies using bug-tracking tools. 
• Collaboration: Work closely with developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and resolve identified issues. 
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation, including test plans, test cases, test scripts, and defect reports. 
• User Experience Focus: Test software from an end-user's perspective to ensure a smooth and intuitive user experience. 
• Regression Testing: Conduct regression testing to ensure that new software updates or changes do not introduce new defects. 
• Process Improvement: Provide feedback and insights to improve the overall quality assurance process and the user experience of the software. 

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Information systems, business systems, management information systems, IT Management, or other IT degree and 15 years of relevant experience (Engineering, math, and/or science degrees are acceptable substitute degrees)
• Meticulous attention to detail for thorough testing and accurate defect reporting. 
• Ability to identify, analyze, and report bugs and issues in a clear and structured manner. 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively report findings and collaborate with the development team. 
• The ability to think like an end-user and understand the user's experience with the software. 
• While not requiring coding knowledge, an understanding of software and applications is necessary. 
• Ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines and complete tasks efficiently. 

Salary: $48,000 - $130,000 dependent on experience level and location.  Entry level positions are available.
