Leading manufacturer of parts and components used in the automotive build and they have an opening on their team for a Staff Accountant. This role is responsible for cost accounting and budgeting activities with a primary focus on inventory, standard costs, manufacturing operations, intercompany purchases, and departmental budgets. This role supports accurate financial reporting, variance analysis, and budgeting processes within a manufacturing environment.
Cost Accountant Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costs for all inventory items, including new item cost roll-ups, validation of bills of materials, and work center rates.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and participate in semi-annual physical inventory counts.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of inventory between the general ledger and detailed system records.
- Reconcile in-transit inventory for products sourced internationally.
- Analyze and report spending, scrap, and manufacturing variances (materials, labor, and overhead) to management.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process and prepare monthly actual-to-budget reports for department leaders.
- Prepare journal entries, including recurring and reversing entries, with a focus on intercompany transactions and balance confirmations.
- Perform work order accounting and variance transactions throughout the month and during month-end close to ensure accurate cutoff.
- Support the month-end close process, including intercompany reporting and consolidation submissions.
Cost Accountant Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- Five years of relevant accounting experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including lookups, pivot tables, sorting, and filtering.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems; knowledge of JDE (Oracle) is a plus.
