Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the nursing department in a skilled nursing facility. This role oversees clinical operations, ensures regulatory compliance, maintains quality resident care, and supports nursing staff development and retention.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily clinical operations of the nursing department
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Supervise and support nurse managers, RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
- Monitor quality measures, infection control, and clinical outcomes
- Manage staffing, scheduling oversight, and nursing budgets
- Lead survey readiness and plan of correction processes
- Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Work closely with the Administrator to improve census, quality, and overall facility performance
- Provide staff education, coaching, and performance management
Qualifications:
- Active RN license in North Carolina
- Previous skilled nursing / long-term care experience required
- Prior leadership experience (ADON or DON preferred)
- Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and survey process
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
