Job description: 

The Asahina lab aims to understand molecular, genetic, and neuronal mechanisms underlying action choice during social interactions. Our group is specifically interested in understanding how the nervous system integrates internal needs and previous experiences influence the nature of social behaviors using aggressive interactions of the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as a model. We are also striving to establish the sweat bees (primitively eusocial insects) as a novel laboratory model to understand the neural mechanisms underlying the establishment of hierarchy and division of labor.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, independent postdoctoral fellow whose scientific interests align with our ongoing research programs. The ideal candidate will be a scientist with a strong training in relevant fields including (but not limited to) molecular and cellular biology, genetics, neuroscience, and animal ethology. Candidates with experience in quantitative approaches are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should be intellectually curious, highly productive, driven to make a significant progress in the field of neuroscience, and are excited to broaden their skillsets and knowledge through working with a diverse group of scientists.

Education: 

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (cellular and molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, ecology and animal behavior are preferred but not required)

What We Can Offer

The full postdoctoral salary range for wet lab opportunities is $70,000-$77,500 (see below). This range covers the entire postdoctoral training period; recent Ph.D. graduates should expect an offer at or close to $70,000 (minimum of the salary range). Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
