We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Behavior Support Paraprofessional to provide behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support to students receiving special education services. The ideal candidate is patient, collaborative, and committed to helping students achieve success in the classroom and beyond.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral challenges.
- Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and positive behavior supports.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist teachers and special education staff in implementing instructional and behavioral programs.
- Support students in achieving goals outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Provide one-on-one and small-group behavioral support in classroom and school settings.
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and reinforcement techniques.
- Assist with behavior monitoring, data collection, and documentation of student progress.
- Support students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other school-related functions.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student success.
- Participate in required training and professional development activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist students with mobility and daily activities as needed.
- Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral crises and emergency situations.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required throughout the school day.
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
- Must have met one of the following requirements:
- Completed a formal academic assessment;
- Earned an associate's degree; or
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning.*
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate required.
