Position Summary
We're seeking an experienced Senior Collections Specialist to join a growing financial services organization. This role is responsible for managing complex delinquent consumer loan accounts, negotiating repayment solutions, mitigating losses, and serving as a subject matter expert for collection and recovery activities. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with a customer-focused approach and has a proven track record of resolving challenging accounts while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of complex and high-risk delinquent consumer loan accounts.
- Contact customers by phone, email, text, and other communication channels to resolve past-due accounts.
- Analyze financial information to identify the root cause of delinquency and recommend appropriate repayment strategies.
- Negotiate payment arrangements, loan modifications, settlements, and other loss mitigation solutions.
- Support escalated collection activities, including repossessions, bankruptcies, and other default management processes.
- Provide guidance and financial education resources to help customers improve their long-term financial health.
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of customer interactions, payment agreements, and account activity.
- Monitor account performance and recommend strategies to reduce delinquency and charge-offs.
- Partner with internal departments to support collection, recovery, and risk management initiatives.
- Assist leadership with reporting, trend analysis, process improvements, and mentoring less experienced team members.
- Ensure all collection activities comply with applicable federal and state regulations, company policies, and industry best practices
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in consumer loan collections, loss mitigation, or default management.
- Demonstrated success handling complex, high-balance, or escalated collection accounts.
- Strong knowledge of consumer lending, collections practices, bankruptcy, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Experience reviewing personal financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and other financial documentation.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and customer service skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience using collections software, core banking or lending systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and collaborate effectively across departments.
Salary : $55,000 - $58,000
