Senior Accountant
Our client who is rapidly growing is adding a Senior Accountant to support its expanding finance and accounting operations team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership and operations while contributing to the financial management of multiple projects.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting along with experience in construction, real estate, or homebuilding environments. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys a hands-on role, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and can balance both day-to-day accounting responsibilities and analytical support.
Responsibilities
- Manage core general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting
- Participate in month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Analyze construction costs, monitor project performance, and support WIP) work-in-progress reporting
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for ongoing projects and communities
- Reconcile cash accounts, credit card activity, and other balance sheet accounts
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Collaborate with construction and operations teams to support accurate job cost tracking and reporting
- Support cash management activities and prepare related reporting
- Coordinate with outside auditors, lenders, and tax professionals as needed
- Contribute to process improvements and enhancements to accounting procedures and controls
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Assist leadership with special projects and operational analysis as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 4 years of accounting experience, ideally within construction, real estate, homebuilding, or a related industry
- Understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with job costing or project-based accounting preferred
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems
- Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus
Preferred Background
- Residential construction or land development industry experience
- Experience working in entrepreneurial or small-to-mid-sized organizations
- Familiarity with construction accounting platforms such as Sage, Viewpoint, Buildertrend, or comparable systems
