Controller

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations for a growing organization in the construction, land development, and civil contracting industries.

This leadership role will be responsible for managing the company’s accounting infrastructure, strengthening reporting processes, and delivering greater financial visibility across multiple business entities and projects.

Position Overview

The Controller will lead all core accounting functions while partnering closely with executive leadership and operations teams to support the company’s financial performance. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical accounting background, experience within construction-related industries, and the ability to create scalable processes in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct all accounting operations across multiple entities
• Manage monthly close activities, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of the balance sheet and overall financial reporting
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping build a strong, accountable team culture
• Oversee job costing processes, work-in-progress reporting, and project margin analysis
• Develop and implement improved accounting workflows, systems, and internal controls
• Reduce manual processes and help modernize financial operations and reporting capabilities
• Work closely with the CFO and operational leaders to provide meaningful financial analysis and business insights
• Support cash flow forecasting, debt tracking, and overall financial planning initiatives
• Maintain compliance with accounting standards and company policies

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• Strong experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and balance sheet management
• Background supporting multi-entity accounting structures
• Ability to work independently and bring organization and structure to a growing business
• Experience within construction, homebuilding, land development, or other project-driven industries
• Knowledge of job costing and WIP reporting concepts

Preferred Experience

• CPA and/or Master’s degree in Accounting preferred
• Experience with construction and project management systems such as MarkSystems, Procore, or similar platforms
