Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker specializing in progressive and transfer stamping dies. This role is responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining dies to support production in a high-volume stamping environment. The ideal candidate has strong machining skills and deep knowledge of stamping operations, die protection, and troubleshooting in-press performance.
Key Responsibilities
Die Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and repair progressive and transfer dies used in stamping operations.
Perform die resets, sharpening, adjustments, and component replacement.
Troubleshoot die timing, feeding issues, balance, alignment, and material flow problems.
Conduct in-press troubleshooting to ensure quality, uptime, and tool longevity.
Tooling Fabrication & Machining
Build new die components using mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM equipment.
Read and interpret die drawings, GD&T, blueprints, and engineering specifications.
Maintain tight tolerances on die components and assemblies.
Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
Perform scheduled PMs on dies and tooling.
Inspect dies after runs and prepare them for next production cycles.
Document all repairs, adjustments, and modifications.
Collaboration & Production Support
Work closely with press operators, engineers, and production teams to resolve issues.
Identify improvements to reduce scrap, improve part quality, and enhance die performance.
Support continuous improvement and root cause analysis for recurring die issues.
Qualifications
5 years of Tool & Die experience in a metal stamping environment.
Strong experience with progressive and transfer dies.
Skilled in machining, grinding, welding, fitting, and tool assembly.
Ability to interpret engineering prints, GD&T, and die design layouts.
Strong troubleshooting abilities in high-speed stamping.
Familiar with die protection systems and in-press sensors.
Preferred Skills
Experience with automotive or high-volume stamping operations.
TIG welding or spotting skills.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM is a plus.
