As the Retail Construction Project Manager, a typical day might include the following:
- Managing multiple retail construction and store build-out projects simultaneously from concept through project closeout
- Developing project scopes, timelines, and implementation plans aligned with company growth strategies
- Coordinating all phases of construction including pre-construction planning, permitting, construction, and final turnover
- Identifying project risks, delays, or cost impacts and proactively implementing solutions to maintain timelines
- Developing, tracking, and managing detailed project budgets while monitoring expenses to ensure alignment with approved financial parameters
- Traveling to project sites across the United States to oversee construction progress, conduct site visits, and support new store openings
- Reviewing contractor bids, proposals, change orders, and invoices for accuracy and cost efficiency
- Preparing project schedules, monitoring construction progress, and coordinating milestones with contractors and vendors
- Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants to ensure projects remain on schedule and meet quality standards
- Coordinating permit applications and working with landlords, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to secure approvals
- Ensuring construction activities comply with building codes, zoning regulations, lease requirements, and company standards
- Serving as the primary liaison between internal leadership, contractors, vendors, landlords, and property representatives
- Coordinating procurement and installation schedules for FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) and ensuring timely delivery for store openings
- Maintaining organized project documentation including contracts, drawings, permits, budgets, and progress reports
- Preparing project status updates, cost forecasts, and development pipeline reports for leadership
- Supporting retail expansion initiatives, including site evaluations and construction feasibility when required
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
This job might be for you if you demonstrate the following abilities and meet the following qualifications:
- 3–7 years of experience managing retail construction or commercial build-out projects
- Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects
- Strong understanding of construction budgeting, scheduling, permitting, and contractor management
- Knowledge of retail construction processes and tenant improvement projects
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, safety regulations, and retail build-out processes
- Proficiency in project management tools and software
- Experience working with national retail brands or franchise environments preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally and nationally as needed
- Must be able to pass CardVault by Tom Brady’s requirements in regards to a legal background check
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is preferred
