What are the responsibilities and job description for the Naval Architect/Structural Engineer position at Cardinal Engineering LLC?
Cardinal Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Naval Architect, Marine Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Structural Engineer with at least three – five years of experience to support US Navy ship and submarine maintenance programs as a Naval Architect/Structural Engineer. The ideal candidate has experience in naval architecture, ship design, ship alteration processes, and the integration of hydrodynamic principles into the maintenance and life cycle of ships. You will interface directly with US Navy customers and provide support to the development of products required for maintaining ship certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Hydrostatics (weight estimates, intact/ damage stability assessments)
- Hydrodynamics (hull design, resistance predictions, seakeeping assessments)
- Ship Alterations (assess weight and moment changes and impacts to ship)
- Arrangements (general arrangements, compartment outfitting)
- Working with multi discipline teams to contribute to develop on revise DoW/DoD standards for weight, stability, etc.
- Assist in responding to Departure from Specifications (DFSs) and Liaison Action Requests (LARs) initiated by shipyards related to weight and stability.
- Prepare Navy Correspondences, reports, status reports, memoranda, and Naval messages, to support the fleet.
- Apply naval architectural knowledge in accordance with applicable regulatory body rules, regulations, and industry standards to develop products.
- Utilize Microsoft PowerApps and the Microsoft SharePoint environment to manage workflows.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in shipyard engineering, naval structures, or submarine systems preferred.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with Engineering Drawings, NAVSEA/Navy Standards, Hydrostatic and Hydrodynamic analysis; basic understanding of Microsoft PowerApps and SharePoint
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Clearance: Must currently possess or be capable of obtaining a SECRET security clearance.
Additional Details
· Location: Hybrid, with reporting offices at the Washington Navy Yard. Some travel may be required.
· Salary: $100K - $140K commensurate with experience.
