What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Cardinal Animal Hospital?
Overview
We are seeking an organized, responsible, and reliable candidate to join our small veterinary team as a full time assistant. The candidate would work 1-on-1 with the doctor preparing for appointments and providing patient restraint/management. Our approach emphasizes quality of care and personalized attention rather than volume and speed. Clients remain with patients for nearly all treatments and procedures, and there are no strict barriers to client movement within the clinic. As such, customer service and interpersonal skills are as essential as patient care.

- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including stocking, cleaning of rooms between patients, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping.
- Provide occasional support for the front desk during busy times.
- Be prepared to educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and preventive health measures.
- Handle all small mammals with care, including dogs and cats (rarely rodents, rabbits, and ferrets)
- Animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, minor grooming, and exercising animals as needed.
Skills
- Basic understanding of veterinary terminology and animal physiology
- Organization and time management
- Experience in a veterinary clinic or similar environment is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
- Comfort with windows-based computers and electronic medical records is essential.
- Strong patient handling skills are necessary for safely managing pets during visits.
