Financial ControllerFull Time | Meriden, CT, USSalary Range: DOESchedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PMSRC, A Carabetta Company, is looking for a financial controller to serve as a key member of the Executive Management Team. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving financial systems, internal controls, and reporting processes to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting across SRC’s Construction Division, Real Estate Development entities, and related business ventures.The Controller will provide strategic financial leadership while overseeing budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and day-to-day accounting operations. This position leads and develops a high-performing accounting team and collaborates closely with executive leadership across multiple business units.ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities are included but not limited to:Lead the development and maintenance of financial systems, internal controls, and reporting processes in accordance with GAAPOversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for construction, development, and related entitiesPrepare and review financial statements and executive-level reportingProvide daily cash flow analysis and reporting to executive leadership for all managed entitiesManage the annual budgeting and rolling forecast processesReview budgets for accuracy, assumptions, and alignment with business objectivesPerform variance analysis and provide actionable recommendationsSupport executive decision-making through financial modeling and strategic analysisOversee Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and percentage-of-completion accountingPrepare and review monthly AIA construction billingsFacilitate cost certification processes and coordinate with external auditorsEnsure compliance with HUD and state/local affordable housing accounting and documentation requirementsOversee cash management, liquidity planning, and accounts payable processesEnsure timely and accurate payments to vendors, subcontractors, and partnersMaintain strong controls over disbursement and cash management activitiesParticipate in sourcing and structuring debt and equity financingEnsure accurate tracking of sources and uses of fundsSupport lender reporting and ongoing compliance requirementsDevelop, document, and maintain accounting policies and proceduresEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controlsIdentify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risksManage relationships with external CPAs, lenders, surety brokers, and other third-party partnersLead annual financial audits, tax compliance activities, and insurance reviewsEnsure timely completion of all audit and regulatory filingsOversee business insurance audits in coordination with brokers and carriersManage relationships with external CPAs, lenders, surety brokers, and other third-party partnersLead annual financial audits, tax compliance activities, and insurance reviewsEnsure timely completion of all audit and regulatory filingsead, mentor, and develop an accounting team of approximately three professionalsCollaborate with Carabetta-affiliated Property Management accounting teams on intercompany and related-party transactionsPromote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional developmentQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required, Masters degree a plus!CPA or equivalent professional certification strongly preferredMinimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with significant exposure to construction and real estate development accountingDemonstrated expertise in GAAP, WIP accounting, percentage-of-completion, and multi-entity reportingStrong experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysisProven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teamsExperience with affordable housing accounting, HUD compliance, and cost certificationsFamiliarity with ERP or construction accounting systemsExperience working with lenders, surety brokers, and equity partnersStrong understanding of internal controls and enterprise risk managementStrategic and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to executive leadershipHigh ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to confidentialityAt The Carabetta Companies, we hold ourselves to high standards and seek team members who share our commitment to excellence.
