Capuchin Community Services
Capuchin Community Services (CCS) is a ministry dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other difficult circumstances. It operates in two locations. The House of Peace primarily supports families living in poverty through a food pantry, clothing pantry, and a variety of social services. St. Ben’s focuses on serving individuals experiencing homelessness, offering a daily meal program, shower facilities, and other essential social services.
Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time Assistant Director for the House of Peace within Capuchin Community Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily operations of the House of Peace through consistent on-site presence, leadership, and guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate, exemplify and support the Capuchin charism and the Province’s Mission, Vision and Values throughout all professional responsibilities and activities.
- In conjunction with the Ministry Director, develop and implement standard operating procedures for the House of Peace
- Collaborate with the Ministry Director to requisition supplies and equipment necessary for daily operations and special events.
- Serve as a liaison to various agencies and groups that meet and serve at the House of Peace.
- Collaborate with the Ministry Director and the Assistant Director—St. Ben’s Community Meal on program, policy and personnel issues.
- Ensure staff are well-trained, present, and effective in carrying out their responsibilities in support of the mission.
- Assist in creating, implementing, and ensuring the programs and services provided for House of Peace guests are creative and support the mission.
- Work with Capuchins, employees and volunteers to develop a comfortable, hospitable and supportive environment for guests of the House of Peace.
- Attend to the level of hospitality and respect demonstrated at the House of Peace on a daily basis.
- Develop and maintain appropriate employee records.
- Provide support in House of Peace services, programs and activities, as needed.
- Represent the House of Peace at community meetings, as required.
- Comply with Province and ministry policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Work or similar field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a supervisory position.
- OR combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated interest or involvement charitable or social justice issues.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and ability to apply them.
- Knowledge of Social Services practices.
- Knowledge of challenges for central city residents.
- Experience planning community events.
- Effective Microsoft Office skills.
- Effective employee management and mentoring skills.
- Effective communication, problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to be welcoming and professional and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally.
- Ability to collaborate with local agencies and volunteers to create opportunities for services and events.
- Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds.
