Summary
The Resident Assistant (R.A.) is student leader position committed to building a positive living environment in Student Housing that supports networking, community, and individual student personal and academic growth. This position has a major role in the lives of the residents through meaningful personal interactions, the implementation of programs, policies, and services at Green River College Student Housing.
Essential Duties:
Community and Interpersonal Development:
- Plan, promote, and complete resident events or programs as designated.
- Assist in the mediation of roommates and other interpersonal conflicts.
- Assist with resident issues and contact professional staff as needed.
- Assist and support residents in the completion of roommate agreements.
- Build and maintain community by establishing strong rapport and sense of respect with residents in your assigned buildings and the entire population of student housing.
- Identify and provide appropriate personal or academic referrals to assist residents in need.
- Be present and available within community.
- Partners with campus offices to provide engagement and support to students.
- Serve as the first line of engagement to any student or community issue and contact.
Community Standards & Policy Enforcement:
- Serve “duty” or “on-call” (back-up) on a rotating basis
- Serve long weekend of “duty” or “on-call” (back-up) on a rotating basis
- Carry out responsibilities shutting down and securing the Townsend Center.
- Document all incidents that occur during duty shifts.
- Assist and support with crisis incidents.
- Maintain confidentiality with all scopes of responsibilities.
- Adhere to all College policies, procedures, and regulations
- Interpret and enforce community and institution’s regulations and policies
- Learn and implement building-wide emergency response procedures
- Complete and submit incident reports as well as, duty logs following each duty shift.
Administrative:
- Participate in training and administrative tasks which occur prior to classes beginning and after classes end.
- Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned. This will generally bi-weekly meetings with supervisors and weekly staff meetings
- Responsible for completing requested reports (duty log entries, room condition reports, incident reports, etc.
- Distribute informational material as needed to residents.
- Assist with room condition assessments prior to Move-In and after Move-Out each semester.
- Assist with the opening and closing of the buildings.
- Conduct quarterly health, safety and maintenance inspections and follow-up accordingly.
- Report on maintenance concerns for the community.
- Complete other facility management responsibilities as assigned.
Front Desk / Office Responsibilities
- Remaining behind the front desk monitoring all building access.
- Answering desk phones professionally.
- Distributing resident packages.
- Assisting residents with work order requests.
- Checking in/out loan keys to residents.
- Adhering to employment schedule and dress code.
- Enforcing policies / procedures of the residence halls and the university (including campus, state and federal regulations).
- Log and organize student mail and packages as a primary function of office shifts.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Duty
- Staff coverage/duty will be requiredduring academic calendar break periods (holidays and extended time).
- Participate in an on-call duty rotation with RA staff after business hours and on weekends (requires walking through all buildings and holding/responding to a duty cell phone overnight)
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Current student at Green River College.
- Maintain10 credit hours and “good standing” at Green River College for employment term
- Minimum GPA of 2.50
- Commitment to inclusivity, self-reliance, initiative, responsibility, and integrity
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work on a team
- The ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Time Commitment:
- Participate in all training, staff meetings, openings and closings during the year(which may overlap with college breaks)
- Helps with major Student Housing events such as Welcome Events, Residential Orientation, Health & Safety Inspections, and Resident Appreciation Week
- Serves in a regular duty rotation (includingWinter, Thanksgiving,and Spring Break)
- Has limited opportunity for additional employment on or off campus
- Participate in and complete Campus Security Authority (CSA) training module.
- Is not away from campus for more than 5days without prior approval from the Residence Life Coordinator

Compensation
This position will receive housing credit for the standard housing fee and will be paid 7 hours each week at a rate of $17.99 per hour. Domestic Resident Assistants are encouraged to meet with a member of financial aid to determine the impact, if any, on their financial aid award.
Other Information
The RA position is a nine (10) month commitment. The RA role is considered essential position and may be required to support essential operations during emergencies, inclement weather, etc. at the direction of the professional staff.
