Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

Position Overview
The Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the accurate accounting, tracking, and reporting of fixed assets and finance leases across their full lifecycle. This role ensures compliance with accounting standards and internal controls while providing reliable asset data to support financial reporting, capital planning, and business decision-making.
Position Responsibilities
- Asset Accounting & Compliance: Maintain the fixed asset register, including capital additions, transfers, revaluations, impairments, and disposals. Ensure accurate recording in SAP and reconciliation between asset sub-ledgers and the general ledger in accordance with IFRS, GAAP, and applicable tax regulations.
- Finance Lease Accounting: Identify and account for finance versus operating leases. Establish lease contracts in SAP, record right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, calculate amortization, interest expense, and depreciation, and maintain lease schedules including renewals and terminations.
- Depreciation & Close Activities: Calculate depreciation using appropriate methodologies, including straight-line and units-of-production. Prepare monthly and quarterly depreciation schedules and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Reporting & Analysis: Produce fixed asset and lease reporting, including continuity schedules, asset turnover metrics, and lease liability aging. Prepare disclosures and supporting schedules for management, auditors, and regulatory reporting.
- Audit & Controls Support: Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, analysis, and explanations. Assist in documenting, monitoring, and improving internal control processes related to fixed assets and leases.
- Process Improvement & Systems: Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and reduce errors. Collaborate with IT and Finance to enhance automation, reporting, and system functionality within SAP and related tools.
- Business & Project Support: Assist with capital budgeting, cost analysis, project accounting, and variance analysis. Participate in cross-functional meetings with project teams and management to support asset-related decision-making.
- General Finance Support: Provide support for ad hoc accounting, finance, and administrative tasks as required, including assisting with tax filings, financial analysis, and corporate reporting activities.
Position Requirements
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3–5 years of experience in fixed asset accounting or a similar role, including exposure to finance leases
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and fixed asset accounting principles
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet reporting deadlines
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English
Preferred
- CPA designation or equivalent
- Experience in the mining or industrial sector
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA and/or OneStream
- Experience supporting audits and internal control frameworks
