1. Supervisor Qualifications & Responsibilities
A supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is entrusted with significant responsibilities to ensure quality care and regulatory adherence. To qualify, a supervising SLP shall:
- Have a minimum of 3 years of work experience as a speech-language pathologist, with at least 2 years having been completed since receiving full licensure or the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
- Maintain ongoing contact with all clients seen by an SLPA, participating in:
- Not less than one session every 2 weeks of in-person contact per client if the client is being seen three times per week or more.
- Not less than one session per month of in-person contact per client if the client is being seen two times per week or less.
- Provide supervision that is a combination of direct on-site activities and indirect activities.
- Be on-site to supervise the SLPA a minimum of 2 times per month.
- Conduct and maintain performance evaluations of the SLPA:
- Within the first 3 months of supervision.
- At least annually thereafter.
- These evaluations must be cosigned by both the supervising SLP and the SLPA.
- Provide a copy of the signed performance evaluation to the SLPA.
- Maintain documentation of client contact and supervisory activities of the SLPA.
- Have the authority to combine in-person client contact and on-site supervision of the SLPA when appropriate.
2. Supervision Compensation & Time Allocation
- Supervisors are typically expected to dedicate the following amount of time per month for supervision:
- Approximately 2-4 hours per month per 1 SLPA.
- Approximately 5-6 hours per month for 2 SLPAs.
- Approximately 6-8 hours per month for 3 SLPAs.
- On-site Presence: Supervisors are required to be present in the office for on-site supervision at least 2 times per month.
- Continuing Education: A 2-hour supervision CEU (Continuing Education Unit) course is typically required for supervisors.
Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
