Role
The Product Manager - Retail Core Products is responsible for the strategy, development, and performance of Capitol Federal's consumer deposit and consumer loan products. This includes checking, savings, money market, and CD accounts, as well as consumer loans such as auto loans, CD loans, and personal unsecured loans. This position manages the full product lifecycle, from market analysis and roadmap creation to implementation, monitoring, and enhancement. In addition, the Product Manager will apply agile product management practices and value stream thinking to improve customer experiences, particularly in areas such as account onboarding. The Product Manager will collaborate closely with internal teams, including Retail Operations, Compliance, Marketing, IT, and Customer Experience, to ensure products are competitive, compliant, and aligned with customer needs.

Knowledge & Skills
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of travel by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public.
Regular in-office attendance required.

Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to plan and direct the work activities of self and others. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy and execution of product plans for all core retail deposit and loan products , while also driving targeted improvements to key customer journeys (e.g., onboarding and additional account opening)
- Develop and maintain product roadmaps in alignment with market trends, regulatory changes, and customer expectations.
- Conduct market, competitor, and customer analysis to guide pricing, feature sets, and channel strategy.
- Maintain interest rates for each product across all systems.
- Define and prioritize business and functional requirements, including writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and facilitating backlog refinement sessions with cross-functional teams.Use value stream mapping and process analysis to identify friction points and opportunities in customer and operational workflows.
- Partner with Finance teams to evaluate product profitability.
- Work cross-functionally with operations and compliance teams to maintain regulatory adherence and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop and execute customer communication strategies.
- Monitor product performance through KPIs, including adoption, utilization, balances, and profitability; initiate changes as needed.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of retail deposit and consumer loan products
- Understanding of pricing strategies, interest rate risk, and portfolio performance metrics
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills
- Familiarity with applicable banking regulations (e.g., Truth in Savings Act, Regulation E, Fair Lending, etc.)
- Knowledge of agile product management practices, including backlog management, sprint planning, and outcome-driven roadmapping.
- Experience with value stream mapping, service design, or process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Design Thinking).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in banking, finance, or a related field
- 3 years in product management or strategic roles, preferably in retail banking
- Experience managing deposit and/or loan portfolios with measurable performance results
- Experience in cross-functional agile or product team environments.
- Familiarity with digital onboarding and servicing tools for core banking products
- Background in retail banking operations or customer experience functions
