What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant | Data Center Construction position at Capitol City Electric?
We aren't looking for someone who just reports the numbers. We're looking for someone who understands what they mean.
Capitol City Electric is growing, and we're looking for a Project Accountant who wants to play an important role in the financial success of our construction projects. You'll begin by supporting a $30–$40 million data center project, working directly with project leadership to manage financial information, track costs, monitor budgets, develop forecasts, and provide the insights needed to make informed decisions. This role is part of our Operations team, reporting to the Project Controls Manager. You'll have the opportunity to work closely with the people executing the project, helping identify challenges, solve problems, and support successful outcomes.
What makes this opportunity different? It's more than traditional project accounting. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, asks questions, identifies opportunities for improvement, and understands that accurate, timely financial information is essential to successful project execution.
You'll be responsible for:
- Project accounting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Budget management, forecasting, and WIP reporting.
- Monthly progress billings and AIA pay applications.
- Change order tracking and subcontractor payment processes.
- Identifying variances, financial risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partnering with project leadership to provide meaningful financial insights.
- Helping strengthen project accounting processes as our company grows.
What you'll bring:
- At least 3 years of construction or project accounting experience.
- Knowledge of job costing, forecasting, progress billing, and WIP reporting.
- Experience with construction accounting systems and strong Excel skills.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with project teams.
Experience in electrical contracting, data center construction, or with Sage Intacct is a plus.
Why Capitol City Electric? We're building more than projects. We're building the processes, partnerships, and teams that will support our continued growth. You'll have meaningful ownership, opportunities to contribute ideas, and the chance to make a direct impact on major construction projects.
