Description:

 

The Afterschool & Summer Meals intern will support the mission of the Capital Area Food Bank through the administration of child nutrition programs in the DMV. 70% of the intern’s time will be spent onsite supporting the operation of the mobile meals bus in 3 communities in Northern, VA. The other 30% of their time will be spent supporting in the monitoring of Afterschool & Summer Meals sites across the three regions. The right person for this role would be interested in a role that is community facing, comfortable being on their feet out in the community for 100% of their time, and would be available in the late afternoon and evening as late as 8 PM to support our sites’ dinner operations.

 


Essential Functions:

 

Program Operation- 70%

  • Receive meals onsite from our vendor and transfer to the bus
  • Plate and serve meals for children in accordance with SFSP guidelines
  • Complete and enter daily reports into Link2Feed, our digital point of service system
  • Provide meal service, including set up and break down
  • Lead recreational activities for children ages 5-18
  • Assist in the planning and organization of the recreational activities
  • Conduct and develop nutrition lessons and materials as necessary
  • Maintain condition of the bus, cleaning daily and reporting any maintenance concerns to the Sr. Manager
  • Build relationships with community members

 

Program Administration- 30%

  • Conduct federally required site visits for program compliance
  • Report site visit findings to regional ASM coordinator

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 1-3 years of work experience in a related field
  • Must have reliable transportation

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Spanish fluency strongly preferred
  • Experience with childcare and/or federal nutrition programs

 

Other Skills, Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong client facing customer service skills

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Standing: over 2/3 percent of the time
  • Driving: under 1/3 percent of the time
  • As required by the duties and responsibilities of the position.

 

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Manager of Afterschool & Summer Meals

Compensation:

  • $17.50 an hour
  • This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. 
     

Schedule:

  • This role is 100% in person in the field
  • Regular work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 12 PM- 8 PM, but will fluctuate based on site dinner hours as needed for site visits; hours include a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
