What are the responsibilities and job description for the SAP TM Architect position at capgemini?
We are looking for a hands-on SAP Transportation Management Solution Architect to lead the end-to-end solution design for a decentralized SAP TM implementation at one of the largest CPG consortiums in North America. This is a greenfield SAP TM deployment.
This is not a part-time advisory role. We need 100% dedicated, hands-on, in-the-weeds involvement from Day 1 through go-live.
This is not an ECC LE-TRA upgrade. This is a greenfield SAP TM implementation replacing a third-party TMS. If your TM experience is limited to LE-TRA shipment documents, this is not the right fit.
This is not a paper architect role. You will configure, review configuration, and troubleshoot alongside the functional team not just produce design documents.
Key Responsibilities:
End-to-end SAP TM solution architecture for a decentralized (side-by-side) deployment on S/4HANA, including integration architecture with core ERP (S/4HANA)
Blueprint and design workshops you will lead these sessions directly with Client transportation business leads
Technical design decisions: carrier tendering strategy (waterfall, broadcast, spot), freight settlement calculation sheets, dock scheduling configuration, and event-driven execution
Integration architecture for SAP BTP (Integration Suite, BN4L for carrier collaboration, Event Mesh, API Management)
Carrier onboarding strategy design: BN4L registration, EDI 204/990/214/210 mapping, and portal/email fallback for regional DSD carriers
Distance/duration determination architecture using PC Miler (FTL) and SMC3 (LTL)
Master data migration strategy from E2Open (carriers, lanes, rates, freight agreements, zones)
RISE with SAP compatibility ensuring all design decisions is clean-core compliant (BAdI/BRF , no Z-programs)
Technical mentorship of 2-3 offshore TM functional and technical consultants
Solution quality gate reviews at each iCaptivate phase (Foundation, Build, Testing, Cutover)
Must Have Experience:
3 full-lifecycle SAP TM implementations as Solution Architect or Lead Functional Consultant at least one on S/4HANA (not just ECC with LE-TRA)
Deep configuration-level expertise in SAP TM: freight order management, carrier selection/tendering, freight settlement (calculation sheets, rate tables, charge calculation), transportation planning, and event management
Hands-on experience with SAP BTP Integration Suite and BN4L (Business Network for Logistics) carrier collaboration, freight order tendering via BN4L, tracking event integration
Integration design experience: ERP-to-TM integration via DRFOUT, SOAP/XI web services, and middleware configuration (RFC destinations, SOA Manager, DRF config)
EDI integration for carrier communication 204 (Load Tender), 990 (Response), 214 (Status), 210 (Invoice) mapping and testing
Master data design: business partners (carrier-specific settings, SCAC codes), locations, transportation zones/lanes, freight agreements, and equipment/vehicle types
Ability to lead design workshops independently with senior business stakeholders translate business requirements into SAP TM configuration decisions on the spot
Experience with distance/duration determination setup (PC Miler, SMC3, or equivalent map provider integration)
Understanding of Z-program regression testing implications in version-mismatch scenarios between decentral TM and core S/4HANA
Highly Preferred:
SAP TM optimizer configuration (MILP-based planning, multi-stop FTL, consolidation)
Fiori launchpad and Transportation Cockpit configuration for role-based UX (dispatcher, planner, analyst personas)
Rail freight exposure Rule 11 interline billing, intermodal TOFC/COFC, railcar management.
Multi-entity / multi-org-unit TM configuration designing a solution that serves on a shared platform with different carrier relationships, rate structures, and business rules
SAP Event Management integration for real-time shipment tracking
Experience with FourKites, project44, or similar visibility platform integration via BN4L
RISE with SAP migration awareness designing for clean core from Day 1
