Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Supervise the childcare program to ensure compliance with all state and local regulations
- Observe and evaluate programs and create a staff development program based on annual needs assessment
- Work with supervisors and teachers to create a developmentally appropriate program aligned with state standards and monitor the implementation of that curriculum in all classrooms
- Confer with parents who express complaints or concerns either verbally or in writing including meeting with the parent whose child is experiencing difficulty or whose child is requiring intervention of medical, educational or psychological
- Coordinate the purchase of supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory of the same
- Recruit, interview and hire appropriate staff to provide services on an ongoing basis
- Monitor staff performance and interactions, intervening as necessary to correct potential problem areas
- Provide orientation for new staff members including a review of their job descriptions, duties and annual requirements, center policies and procedures, information on child abuse, program goals and philosophy and any other information deemed appropriate
- Plan and promote a parent involvement program
- Prepare monthly and annual reports and budgets
- Participate in professional organizations and conferences and otherwise keeps abreast of current childcare issues, research and policies related to child development and childcare

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education And Formal Training
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development/Education or related field required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Pediatric CPR certification required
- Current Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) workforce letter required
- 1 year experience in a large Child Care Center Facility as a Co-Director or Assistant Director required
- Knowledgeable of laws, rules and regulations which pertain to North Carolina State requirements
- Working knowledge of techniques and practices of budget to maintain and supervise a large childcare facility
- Verbal and written communication skills to effectively relate to various departments and both to children and parents of the childcare facility
- Understanding of and working with a budget
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain open communication
- Effective leader and advocate for children and their families
- Work involves a variety of activities including walking, standing, and lifting of children and various objects
- Ability to speak effectively and visually observe facility
