Fire Hydrant Technician

Incumbents in this position are responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of fire hydrants. This position is assigned to pay grade G12.

  • Perform hydrant inspections and testing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Performs outlet cap lubrication.
  • Performs valve stem lubrication as needed.
  • Performs corrective maintenance.
  • Repair weep hole functionality.
  • Replace outlet caps and outlet caps gaskets.
  • Perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Prep and painting of fire hydrants.
  • Assists in solving customer complaints and problems as well as those reported by local fire departments.
  • Assists with construction, repair, maintenance, and operations of water and wastewater lines and mains.
  • Work order management.
  • Inventory management.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months of general work experience or any related work field.
  • Possession of NC Distribution System Operator license is preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license required.
