GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Institutional Research Analyst supports the Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) in providing accurate, timely, and meaningful institutional data and analysis to support College planning, decision-making, accreditation, compliance, and institutional effectiveness. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Research and Planning.
This position requires four days per week in the office and allows one remote day per week, with the possibility of additional remote work after six months.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Extract, clean, integrate, and analyze institutional data from the College's student information system, relational databases, and other data sources while developing reproducible analytical workflows and maintaining clear technical documentation.
- Prepare, validate, and submit accurate and timely reports to federal and state agencies, accreditation bodies, and other external organizations, including IPEDS and Massachusetts Department of Higher Education reporting.
- Provide timely, client-focused responses to ad hoc data requests from college leadership, academic and administrative departments, committees, and other stakeholders
- Conduct semester statistical analyses and reports on student retention, enrollment, and graduation outcomes. (e.g. Fall/Spring/Summer Quick Facts, Annual Enrollment Quick Facts, Degrees/Certificates Conferred Summary).
- Provide data and analytical support for accreditation, program review, grant reporting, strategic planning, assessment, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
- Support institutional survey administration using Survey Monkey.
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, datasets, and reporting processes used for institutional research, planning, accreditation, and grants.
- Maintain clear documentation of data sources, definitions, methodologies, queries, validation procedures, and recurring reporting processes.
- Collaborate with departments across the College to clarify information needs, identify appropriate data sources and measures, resolve data-quality issues, and promote consistent use of institutional data.
- Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and reproducibility of data extraction, validation, analysis, and reporting processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with coursework or experience in quantitative analysis, databases, or data science (e.g., statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, information systems, or related fields).
- Three (3) years of professional experience involving data analysis, reporting, research, or related analytical work.
- Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to independently develop, troubleshoot, and validate queries involving relational data.
- Strong Excel skills for data analysis, validation, and reporting.
- Experience with business intelligence or data visualization platforms such as Tableau.
- Demonstrated ability to validate and quality-check data, identify discrepancies or unusual results, investigate potential causes, and ensure accuracy before reporting or disseminating information.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data and synthesize results into clear, accurate, and concise findings for nontechnical audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to accuracy, consistency, and completeness when working with data.
- Ability to independently manage multiple requests and projects simultaneously and establish priorities, regularly communicate status and meet required deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to present and communicate complex analyses into clear reports, visualizations, and presentations for a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, take ownership of assigned work, and recognize when results require additional investigation or validation.
- Knowledge of or ability to apply data privacy, confidentiality, and security requirements, including FERPA.
- Ability to work as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to independently scope ambiguous problems, learn new methods of analysis and extend/modify existing analytical code and methods.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university that includes coursework in research methods, statistics and databases.
- Experience in institutional research, institutional effectiveness, or a related higher education environment.
- Familiarity with higher education reporting requirements and practices, including IPEDS, state reporting, accreditation, or program review.
- Experience working with student information systems such as Banner, Jenzabar, or similar enterprise systems.
- Experience with Transact-SQL (T-SQL), including developing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
- Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations using Tableau.
- Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback and continuous learning

Additional Information:
COMPENSATION: Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position. Annual Salary range of $75,000.00 - $85,000.00, dependent on qualifications. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program and the option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
