Team Overview:
This role is part of the O’Connor Risk team in New York, responsible for independent oversight of investment fund portfolios, modeling, analysis, and global reporting for the O’Connor business. The position works closely with portfolio managers and other senior risk professionals.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform market and credit risk analysis and reporting for the O’Connor business, covering VaR, stress loss, operational guidelines, transactional reviews, and liquidity risk.
- Execute credit analysis on direct lending transactions.
- Analyze and assess model implementation of financial instruments including equity, fixed income, commodities and currencies.
- Execute portfolio reviews including P&L explanation, risk factor and ad hoc analysis.
- Participate sub-governance forums within the O’Connor platform to discuss key risks relevant to various strategies.
- Serve as a representative in Group Risk updates, and in dealing with hedge fund management.
- Liaise with Operations, Finance, Technology, and other groups to identify operational risk matters and support new business and hedge fund change initiatives.
- Work with senior risk officers on risk guideline development with portfolio managers.
- Perform research projects on capital allocation and risk management.
- Work with the global risk team to standardize processes and utilize existing resources.
- Assist in preparing presentations of risk framework and control processes for regulators, the board of directors, or clients.
Experience and Skills:
- 5-7 years’ experience in an investment risk, hedge fund, or quantitative role covering a broad range of equity, credit, commodity and FX products.
- A BA/BS in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering; a Master’s degree or CFA is beneficial.
- The ability to analyze direct lending transactions.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with senior investment professionals in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with MSCI RiskMetrics or similar risk management systems (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerBi, with intermediate programming skills (e.g., VBA, R, Python)
