What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time World Languages Teacher - French & Global Citizenship position at Canton High School?
Canton High School seeks a highly qualified and DESE certified French teacher who has native or near-native fluency in the language to teach two year-long sections of French and a semester-long elective in our Global Citizenship Certificate program called International Business Economics and Global Studies. Near-native speakers should have experience studying, working and/or teaching abroad.
Successful applicants should be capable of teaching any level of French (levels 1-4) and have interest in building coursework for our Global Citizenship Certificate program. Prospective candidates must have the knowledge and capacity to design and implement effective, engaging, and student-centered high school world languages curriculum units and lessons.
We are seeking dynamic professionals who will bring inclusive, differentiated, and purposeful standards-based instruction to the world languages classroom. Applicants must be effective communicators who can articulate what they believe to be the essential ingredients of quality world languages instruction and be able to deliver lessons in the target language that meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.
Prospective educators will be creative self-starters, able to design, scaffold, and implement instructional units and Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs) informed by the 2021 MA World Languages Curriculum Framework, and ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
Candidates must be comfortable using a variety of instructional technology tools, such as a digital language laboratory and Google Classroom, to engage learners in authentic learning experiences. Successful applicants will have experience with content-based instruction, and proficiency-based teaching and learning.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Current Massachusetts DESE certification in French (5-12)
- Additional DESE certification in Spanish and/or Italian is desirable
- Successful student teaching experience
- Three (3) current professional references
- Experience integrating technology, including digital language lab technology, into lessons
- Familiarity with proficiency exams, like the AAPPL or STAMP 4S
- Interest in collaborating with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary instructional units and common assessments
- Flexible, dependable, and organized
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Passion for teaching high school students
