Position Overview:
The HR Generalist role is responsible for delivering HR support within a unionized, heavy manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies, administering benefits and leave programs, and driving employee engagement initiatives. The HR Generalist partners closely with union and non-union employees across the organization to deliver effective HR services that support both organizational objectives and a positive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Policy Administration: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA, DOL). Maintain HR records, reporting, and documentation in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Support consistent application of company policies and collective bargaining agreements. Assist with investigations, grievances, and disciplinary actions as assigned.
- Benefit Administration: Administer health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans, retirement programs, and other employee benefits. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions, claims, and issue resolution. Support open enrollment and benefit communication initiatives. Partner with payroll and vendors to ensure accuracy and timeliness of benefit transactions.
- Performance Management: Support supervisors and managers in the performance review process, including goal setting, feedback, and evaluations. Ensure performance management practices are applied consistently and fairly across all employee groups. Provide guidance on coaching, development plans, and corrective action processes. Track and report on performance-related metrics to support workforce development and accountability.
- Employee Engagement & Relations: Support employee recognition programs, communication campaigns, and events to strengthen engagement and culture. Act as an accessible resource for employees, fostering trust and positive working relationships. Assist with training and development programs to support workforce growth and compliance. Provide coaching and support to supervisors in managing teams effectively.
- Union Relations Support: Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives. Support contract administration, including tracking compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. Provide HR data and reporting to support labor relations initiatives.
- General HR Operations: Assist with hourly and salaried recruitment, onboarding, and orientation as needed. Process HRIS transactions, maintain personnel files, and ensure data integrity. Contribute to continuous improvement in HR processes and employee support services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent HR experience considered.
- Required: 3 years of HR Generalist experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Experience in benefits administration, performance management, and HRIS systems.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law.
- Experience in unionized manufacturing environments preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems: UKG Pro.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, heavy manufacturing environment.
