What are the responsibilities and job description for the US Dean of Students position at CANNON SCHOOL INC?
The Upper School Dean of Students is responsible for one of the grades in the US. In addition, this position may teach 1-2 classes per year. This position reports directly to the Head of Upper School.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of Student Life, in Upper School daily operations
- Leads Advisory and Student Life programming including (but not limited to) writing curriculum and overseeing annual class trips
- Leads and motivates all grade-level advisors for the grade through Grade Level Advisory Meetings (GLAM) structure
- Owns various leadership programs (student council, house system, honor council, clubs, etc.)
- Creates and develops grade-level class culture and community
- Manages conflict resolution with teachers, students, and families
- Celebrates positive student behavior and maintains student discipline (correspondence and record-keeping)
- Co-coordinates of New Student Orientation and New Student Seminar
- Works closely with Upper School Counselor, Learning Specialist, and Dean of Academics
- Serves on the US admissions committee
- Provides emotional counseling for students in conjunction with the school counselor
- Organizes the upper school calendar, including planning and coordination of all major meetings, special events, and speakers
- Implements upper school safety procedures and emergency response
- Participates in diversity and inclusion initiatives in the upper school
- Partner with parents on the US parent liaison committee
- Assists Assistant Head of Student Life with honor council, house system, and leadership lunch
- Completes other duties as assigned
BA required, Masters preferred, a minimum of 2 years’ experience preferred

- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and facilitator skills
- Strong ability to work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and contacts
- Ability to quickly and effectively locate students on campus, respond to medical situations and set up/tear down events
