What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Learning Specialist position at CANNON SCHOOL INC?
The Upper School Associate Learning Specialist assists the Upper School Learning Specialist in all student support services activities including directing services, programs, and personnel in the areas of learning support, testing accommodations, tutoring, and academic coaching referrals; providing information and serving as a resource to administrators, counselors, teachers, students and parents; and overseeing the implementation of learning and testing accommodations in the classrooms, the testing center, and during standardized testing periods.
Responsibilities of the Upper School Associate Learning Specialist:
- Reports to the Head of Upper School
- Assists in conducting initial screening procedures directly with students.
- Observes, monitors, and meets 1-1 with students who have been evaluated or are undergoing an evaluation; makes recommendations to the Learning Specialist regarding learning plans, as necessary; serves alongside the advisor and grade-level dean as one of the primary contact persons between school and home.
- Communicates initial testing accommodations requests to teachers.
- Collects and screens all educational and psycho-educational evaluations and testing submitted to the Upper School.
- Reviews files annually to determine eligibility status for accommodations at school and through the College Board (SAT/AP) and/or ACT.
- Collaborates with Lower and Middle School Learning Specialists to better serve students with cognitive, social, and emotional needs.
- Collaborates with Academic Dean, Assistant Academic Dean, and Student Academic Support Coordinator to oversee academic interventions such as mandated study blocks and required academic coaching sessions for students with learning plans that become academically ineligible.
- Collaborates with Academic Dean, Assistant Academic Dean, and Student Academic Support Coordinator to facilitate testing accommodations including scheduling tests, proctors, and separate setting accommodations for final exams.
- Assists with coordination of standardized testing accommodations, PSAT, SAT, AP, and ACT.
- Serves as Chapter Advisor for Eye-to-Eye program with US student mentors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Required:
- Classroom teaching experience of at least 3 years at any level
- Master’s degree in an area of education or educational leadership
- A passion for serving neurodiverse students within our mission-aligned program
