About the Role
The Sustainability & Energy Manager will lead energy management and sustainability initiatives across a heavy manufacturing facility. Reporting to the General Manager, this role will identify and implement opportunities to reduce energy consumption, emissions, and operating costs while managing energy-related continuous improvement and capital projects.
The ideal candidate has hands-on energy or facilities experience in heavy manufacturing and can translate operational data into measurable cost and efficiency improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the facility's Energy and Sustainability Programs and cross-functional energy initiatives.
- Analyze consumption and costs across electricity, natural gas, water, compressed air, welding gas, and other utilities.
- Identify and implement energy-efficiency, cost-reduction, and sustainability projects.
- Manage energy-related capital and continuous improvement projects, including budgets, timelines, RFQs, and savings.
- Partner with Maintenance, Facilities, Environmental, and other plant teams on energy optimization.
- Monitor energy KPIs and systems to identify improvement opportunities.
- Lead Energy Team meetings, plant energy walks, reporting, and sustainability initiatives.
- Present project recommendations, performance results, and cost savings to management.
- Evaluate new technologies, best practices, incentives, and funding opportunities.
Qualifications
- Degree in Energy/Sustainability Management or 3 years of relevant energy project or industrial facilities management experience.
- Heavy manufacturing experience required.
- Experience analyzing plant utility and energy consumption data.
- Proven success implementing energy-efficiency or energy-reduction projects.
- Automotive manufacturing and plant automation experience preferred.
- Familiarity with industrial systems such as compressors, chillers, MUAs, flow meters, and HVAC preferred.
- Electrical systems and schematic/drawing knowledge preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
