Shipping & Receiving Specialist

Position Summary
Cannon Industries, Inc., a growing sheet metal fabrication company, is seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Specialist to support daily warehouse and production logistics. This role is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing materials, verifying shipments, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting production flow in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate brings at least 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations—preferably within manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication—and demonstrates strong attention to detail, organization, and safety awareness.
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring hands-on coordination with production, purchasing, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Outbound Logistics
- Prepare and process outgoing shipments including fabricated sheet metal components, assemblies, and raw materials
- Package products appropriately to prevent damage during transit
- Generate shipping labels, bills of lading, packing slips, and other documentation
- Coordinate shipments using UPS, FedEx, freight carriers, and local delivery services
- Schedule freight pickups and coordinate delivery timelines
- Verify accuracy of shipments against work orders and customer requirements
- Maintain shipping logs and tracking documentation
Receiving & Inbound Logistics
- Receive incoming materials including sheet metal, hardware, tooling, and supplies
- Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage
- Verify purchase orders and packing slips
- Document discrepancies and coordinate resolution with purchasing or vendors
- Label and properly store received materials
- Deliver materials to production areas as required
Inventory Control & Warehouse Support
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts
- Organize warehouse and storage areas for efficiency and safety
- Monitor material levels and communicate shortages to purchasing
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe shipping/receiving areas
- Assist with material movement throughout production areas
Production Support
- Coordinate with production team to prioritize shipments
- Support just-in-time material delivery to fabrication teams
- Assist with staging materials for upcoming production jobs
- Ensure proper documentation accompanies all work orders
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations
- Experience in manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication environment preferred
- Experience with freight carriers and shipping systems (UPS, FedEx, LTL, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to read work orders, packing slips, and purchase orders
- Basic computer skills (Excel, inventory systems, ERP preferred)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout warehouse and production floor
- Ability to operate forklifts and material handling equipment (certification preferred or willing to obtain)
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift certification
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication or metal manufacturing
- Familiarity with manufacturing documentation and work orders
Work Schedule
- Full-Time

- Monday – Friday (Overtime as needed based on production demands)
