Cetera is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our Advanced Planning Team (APT) as a Senior Advanced Planning Consultant. The APT plays a critical role in developing sophisticated wealth strategies for high-net-worth (HNW) clients - typically those with $10 million or more investable assets - using a comprehensive planning framework that integrates tax-efficient investing, risk management, trust and estate planning, wealth transfer, and charitable giving. In this role, the consultant will collaborate closely with affiliated advisors and internal Cetera teams, including Cetera Trust Company, to deliver holistic financial solutions that align with client goals and drive measurable growth in assets under management.
The ideal candidate will bring a consultative mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build trust with sophisticated clients and advisors. Deep technical expertise is valued along with credibility, and ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly.
Key Responsibilities
Advisor & Client Engagement
• Build and maintain strong relationships with affiliated financial professionals (FPs).
• Guide FPs in leading with formal financial planning to better serve affluent investors.
• Conduct discovery meetings, facilitate data gathering, and provide strategic recommendations.
• Communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively to FPs and their clients.
• Respond promptly to advisor inquiries, assess urgency, and manage priorities accordingly.
• Proactively initiate outreach to support business development and asset growth.
Collaboration & Leadership
• Partner with internal teams and product specialists (e.g., advisory, insurance, trust, alternatives) to deliver integrated planning solutions.
• Collaborate with Cetera Trust Company and other departments to support holistic financial planning.
• Document and share advisor interactions to ensure continuity and team alignment.
• Serve as a liaison to various internal departments and product specialists (e.g., advisory, annuity, insurance, and alternative-solutions) to help ensure concerted accomplishments.
• Honor promises to FPs, follow through on commitments to internal stakeholders, be receptive to constructive dialogue to drive positive change, and learn from others.
• Ensure all planning recommendations and implementations adhere to regulatory requirements, internal compliance standards, and suitability guidelines, particularly when working with complex HNW strategies and alternative investments. Act as a risk-aware partner to advisors, helping them navigate fiduciary responsibilities and mitigate potential compliance issues.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• At least 10 years’ experience in a client- or advisor-facing HNW planning role
• FINRA Series 7 & 63 required.
• Life insurance license preferred.
• CFP® designation preferred or equivalent experience.
• BS/BA in business, finance, economics, accounting or related field.
• Strong understanding of trust, estate, and legacy planning.
• Familiarity with business planning, charitable giving, and risk management strategies.
• Experience with alternative investments (e.g., 1031 exchanges, QOZs, REITs, exchange funds, oil & gas programs).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint and Excel, to create compelling presentations and support data-driven recommendations that influence advisor and client decision-making.
• Proficiency in using Salesforce or other CRMs and financial planning platforms (e.g., eMoney, MoneyGuidePro).
