Core Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for patients undergoing radiation therapy and evaluate patient status throughout the course of treatment.
- Monitor, assess, and manage treatment-related side effects, including skin reactions, fatigue, pain, mucositis, and gastrointestinal/genitourinary symptoms.
- Provide clinical triage and symptom management, including nursing interventions and escalation to providers when indicated.
- Assist physicians during on-treatment visits (OTVs) and support clinical evaluations.
- Educate patients and families on radiation therapy, expected side effects, symptom management, and self-care during treatment.
- Provide ongoing patient support and serve as a primary clinical resource for patient questions and concerns during treatment.
- Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team, including radiation oncologists, therapists, and other clinical services; facilitate appropriate referrals as needed.
- Communicate changes in patient condition or clinical concerns to providers in a timely manner.
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient education in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Promote patient safety by identifying and reporting adverse events or complications related to treatment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience (radiation oncology experience preferred).
- Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; must be maintained.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification or willingness to obtain within a two (2) years of hire.
- Knowledge of radiation therapy workflows and treatment-related side effect management preferred.
- Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise required to deliver direct care to patients based on physical, psychosocial, educational, developmental/age-specific and spiritual needs.
- Knowledge of radiation safety practices, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards at the state and federal levels.
- Proficient in radiation oncology EMRs.
- Demonstrated clinical efficiency and patient throughput.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
