PURPOSE
The Catering Associate supports the catering team in the planning and execution of catering operations and events. This role provides organizational and operational support in the development, coordination, and implementation of catering services. The Catering Associate serves as a liaison between catering and campus partners, including restaurant and retail management teams, fostering strong working relationships through clear communication and collaborative support. This is a 9-month position.
Essential Functions
Support the execution and coordination of events from start to finish
Coordinate logistics in collaboration with internal teams to ensure seamless communication and execution
Assist in the organization and maintenance of catering storage areas and supplies
Assist with event pack-outs to ensure all equipment and materials are ready for setup
Prepare event spaces, including layout setup, décor placement, and service in event locations
Serve food to guests using plated and buffet-style service methods
Assist in the preparation and production of food and beverages in accordance with established quality, timeliness, and presentation standards
Deliver food, supplies, and equipment for catering events, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper setup at multiple locations on campus
Track consumption, production, usage, and waste for events
Provide on-site support to serving staff and help ensure smooth event operations
Assist with event breakdown, cleanup, and equipment return
Respond to guest needs to help exceed customer expectations
Serve as a professional representative and ambassador to external constituents
Follow all established food safety, sanitation, and health standards to ensure a safe and compliant catering production environment
Demonstrate organization, attention to detail, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
Other duties may be assigned to support individual and organizational goals
Skills And Competencies
Excellent communication and customer service skills in a diverse environment
Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
Strong time management and organizational skills
Basic problem-solving and decision-making skills
Education And Experience
High school diploma and two years of customer service or equivalent combination of education/experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid NYS driving license
Culinary background preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to bend, push, stoop, kneel, crouch and twist
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Required to work nights and weekends

SCOPE AND DIRECTION
- Reports to: Catering Manager
- Direct Reports: None
- FLSA Status: Hourly
- Rate of Pay: $19.00 per hour
