Job Opening – Child Support Caseworker

The Campbell County Attorney’s Office is currently seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Full Time Child Support Caseworker with a starting pay rate of $21.00 per hour. The Child Support Caseworker will be responsible for assisting in carrying out the responsibilities and services provided at the Campbell County Child Support Office. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong work ethic, a desire to serve the general public and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Interview custodial parents to secure information regarding the whereabouts and assets of absent parents negligent in making child support payments; ensure that forms and applications for child support payments are complete and accurate; inform the Cabinet for Families and Children of non-cooperative custodial parents.
  • Monitor child support payment records to ensure that the responsible party is in compliance with court order; sets priorities on how and when to pursue collections; initiates delinquent notices to the non-custodial parent when necessary in order to secure continued support payments; arrearage payment terms; seek review and adjustments of court orders when appropriate.
  • Conduct financial resources background investigations on ability to pay; file liens when appropriate against property, personal injury cases; workers’ compensation claims, Social Security Disability, probates and bankruptcies. Answer questions and explains policy by telephone, correspondence or personal contact; maintains financial records and documents as may be appropriate for each case.
  • Secure payments for other states when the paying party lives in Campbell County; requests actions from other states when paying party resides outside of Campbell County and court action is required.
  • Answer questions regarding cases of both a general and specific nature; if unable to answer questions, refers question to appropriate individual.
  • Complete necessary activity to maintain and keep the state child support system in compliance with state and federal mandates/regulations. Initiate computer input for child support, initiate documents changing support payments in accordance with modification of court orders, close cases after thorough review and analysis reveals closure is appropriate; prepare and maintain forms, applications case files and other necessary records.
  • Compile information and prepare case records for delinquent collection cases being reviewed for legal action and writes case summaries; prepare various legal documents needed to enforce child support orders, compute calculation of child support obligations and arrearages as requested.
  • Prepare cases for civil or criminal prosecution with the assigned Campbell County Attorney’s Office.
  • Handle incoming customer service calls.

Training Provided

Training on the state child support system and all supporting systems provided internally at the Campbell County Child Support Office and at the Division of Child Support. The Division of Child Support provides mandatory 2- or 3-day training sessions in Frankfort, KY.

Knowledge and Abilities

You will be trained to use methods and techniques used in interviewing individuals to discover information pertinent to the establishment of child support obligations, location and financial status of the responsible party. You will learn and apply state, federal and local procedures and rules in order to secure current and delinquent child support payments; learn to comply with court mandated due process standards; effectively interview individuals in order to secure information necessary to collect support payments; locate individuals and research information on the whereabouts of absent parents; make logical determinations from financial statements on the amount of child support payments; learn to monitor child support payment records; learn and evaluate case records; prepare correspondence and convey facts and information; deal with stressful situations and hostile people; operate electronic information systems.

Education and Experience

Some college education preferred but not required, basic computer skills, basic accounting preferred but not required, organizational skills, telephone skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work as a member of a team of child support specialists.

The Campbell County Child Support Office participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in U.S. CHFS will only use E-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9.
