What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sleepaway Camp Song Leader position at Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake?
Jewish Sleepaway Camp Song Leader - Summer 2026
Make music. Make memories. Make camp sing.
About CYJ Sprout Lake
CYJ Sprout Lake is a co-ed, pluralist Jewish overnight camp for rising 2nd–8th graders in New York’s gorgeous Hudson Valley. We run an elective-based program with tons of choice, tons of energy, and a mission that matters: strengthen Jewish identity, deepen connection to Israel, and inspire kids to believe they can change the world. If you’re a creative do-er who cares about community and impact, you’ll feel right at home here.
What You’ll Do (aka: make the soundtrack of summer)
- Lead high-spirited shira (song sessions) for different ages and crowd sizes—from cozy cabin circles to full-camp ruachfests.
- Bring fresh ideas and original songs to weave into beloved camp traditions
- Co-lead daily t’fillot (prayer) with spirit and inclusivity, plus Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah under the stars.
- Collaborate across units to design daily music moments and pop-up jams that elevate programs and electives.
- Power the soundtrack for campfires, evening programs, talent shows, and special events.
- Be a go-to resource for staff—coach counselors on using music to build community, create playlists, and hype up their groups.
What You Bring
- A warm stage presence and the ability to ignite a room—from quiet reflection to full-throttle ruach.
- Proficiency with guitar/ukulele/keyboard (or similar) and strong vocals; comfort teaching parts and harmonies.
- A love of Jewish/Israeli music and music education, with openness to pluralistic prayer settings.
- Experience with camps, youth work, performance, or education—and a big heart for working with kids and teens.
- Self-starter energy, collaborative spirit, and a knack for turning ideas into singable moments.
- Values-driven leadership and a willingness to model Jewish concepts and community care.
