What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Registered Nurse (RN) position at Camp Schodack?
About us:
We are a family-owned overnight summer camp for children ages 7-16, founded in 1957. We are located in the beautiful foothills of the Berkshires. Our motto is warmth, tradition, and spirit. We are looking for a friendly nurse to join us for our 68th summer!
Health Center Team:
Our talented health center staff includes four full-time nurses (who work day shifts), separate night nurses (for evening/overnight shifts), a Physician Assistant, and a full-time administrator. A pediatrician from a nearby clinic provides backup care, visits camp multiple times per week, and is available for phone consultation as needed. There are three hospitals within 15 miles of camp, and numerous specialists in Albany who will see our campers on short notice.
Health Center Facility: A completely renovated, equipped, pleasant, air-conditioned clinic with a treatment area, sleeping areas, a kitchen, and a full bathroom. Each nurse has an air-conditioned, private accommodation with satellite TV and private bathroom/shower facilities.
Responsibilities:
To perform on-site medical care for all staff and campers during the day, including –
- Ability to provide emergency care and/or first aid
- Communication with parents
- Maintaining Health Center records
- Dispensing medicine
- Caring for campers and staff who are ill or injured and have been admitted to the Health Center (medications, meals, etc.)
- Maintaining the physical environment of the Health Center (light cleaning, changing beds, laundry)
- Attend out-of-camp trips and doctors' appointments/ER visits, if needed
Dates and schedule:
- Seeking nurses for the full season (June 15th – August 14th, 2026) or a single 3 1/2 week session
- 5-day work week (2 days off, can be consecutive), 12-13 hours per day, with breaks scheduled into the day.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $1300/week
- Free tuition for nurse child(ren) (aged 7-14)
- Permanent New York State Nursing License (we pay fees)

- Coverage under Camp Schodack’s malpractice insurance
