We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled Assistant Director to join our leadership team and help shape the summer for both campers and staff.
Position Overview
The Assistant Director is a key member of the directing staff and plays a central role in staff leadership, program quality, camper welfare, and overall camp operations. This individual works closely with the Camp Director and provides supervision, guidance, and support across all areas of camp life. The Assistant Director also acts as the Camp Director when needed. Qualifications
Minimum age: 25
Education: Degree in a field aligned with camp’s philosophy (Recreation, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Natural Sciences, or related areas).
Experience:
- At least two seasons of previous experience working as part of an administrative staff of a recreational camp for children or successful completion of a course in camping administration (or willingness to complete prior to camp season)
- Preferred experience in education at the elementary, middle, or high school level, or background in school counseling or education administration
- Proven experience working with youth in a camp or educational setting.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing teams and coordinating large-scale programs.
- Familiarity with summer camp environments or experience in summer camp programs.
- Strong organizational abilities combined with excellent communication skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.

Essential Functions
- Communicate professionally and effectively with diverse groups, both formally and informally
- Handle phone communication with parents, vendors, and external partners
- Navigate and operate within a physically demanding overnight camp environment
- Maintain stamina, positivity, and professionalism throughout extended work hours
Key Responsibilities
Staff Leadership & Development
- Organize, train, supervise, and evaluate camp staff
- Support staff of varying experience levels in programming, counseling, and problem solving
- Serve as a role model in working with campers from diverse backgrounds
Program & Operations Oversight
- Collaborate with Camp Director to oversee team of leadership staff such as Program Director, Waterfront Director, Lead Nurse, Head Chef, and Maintenance Director, ensuring completion of their responsibilities
- Support counseling staff in working with campers, and assist Camp Director in behavior management and conflict resolution amongst campers
- Review weekly activities, theme days, and camp-wide events with program leadership
- Maintain a safe, fun, and supportive environment for all campers and staff
- Uphold and model the philosophy, mission, and values of Camp Rotary
Leadership & Representation
- Act as Camp Director when the Director is off-site or unavailable
- Support the directing staff team with evaluations, improvements, and decision-making
- Address disagreements professionally and privately, away from campers and counseling staff
- Lead by example at all times, setting the tone for camp culture and professionalism
Supervisor
Reports directly to the Camp Director.
