Position Description:
As a Health and Wellness Specialist at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will play a critical role in ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of campers and staff throughout the summer. You will oversee the health center, administer medications, provide basic first aid, and offer support and encouragement to those in need. Embracing the Christian values and mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will serve as a compassionate and competent leader, contributing to a safe and nurturing camp environment where campers can grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent experience.
Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications:
1. Current First Aid, CPR, and AED training and certification.
2. Must be of Christian faith, be able to share your personal testimony of faith in Christ, and be actively involved or seeking involvement in local church fellowship.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling medical information and situations.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Supervision:
- Enforce camp health and safety policies to maintain a secure and orderly health center environment.
- Prioritize safety and well-being of campers and staff, work to reduce risk of accidents and injuries.
- Coordinate with camp leadership to implement health-related protocols and procedures.
- Assist Camp Director and Assistant Camp director with hospital visits for campers and staff.
- Stay in the retreat center or a cabin with campers overnight based on program need Monday through Friday.
Weekly Responsibilities:
1. Dispense medications to campers and staff according to prescribed schedules, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to medication protocols.
2. Provide basic first aid and medical care as needed, assessing injuries and illnesses, determining appropriate treatment, and recording camper health log and incident report.
3. Assist with camper check-in and health screenings upon arrival, documenting any pre-existing medical conditions or special needs.
4. Collaborate with camp Youth Development Leaders and activity leaders to support campers with medical needs during program activities and outings.
5. Fill portable water jugs at various activity areas to encourage camper hydration.
6. Manage camper lost and found by collecting, washing, and organizing lost and found items.
7. With coordination and approval from the Camp Director, communicate effectively with parents regarding camper health issues, medication management, and any medical concerns that arise.
General:
1.Maintain personal grooming and cleanliness standards, setting a positive example for campers and colleagues.
2.Assist with camp clean-up at the end of each session, promoting teamwork and responsibility.
3. Complete a summer feedback survey at the end of the summer.
4. Assist with other camp duties and routines as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the overall success of the camp community.
