What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAMP MC + CULTURE LEAD position at Camp Embark?
Role Purpose
The Camp MC Culture Lead is responsible for the emotional tone, group culture, and leadership climate of the camp.
This role sets energy, reinforces inclusion, and supports camper regulation across the program. In addition, this role serves as the primary culture and leadership lead for the teens (ages 12–13), our oldest camper group.
You are the adult presence that keeps older campers engaged, accountable, and aligned with camp values while supporting their transition into leadership.
Key ResponsibilitiesCampwide Culture & Energy
- Lead or support morning gatherings and campwide moments
- Guide group energy during transitions and high-movement periods
- Reinforce camp culture, language, and inclusion across all age groups
- Support campers who need emotional regulation or redirection
- Model calm, confident leadership during high-energy situations
- Partner with site leadership to maintain a positive camp climate
Teen Leadership (Ages 12–13)
- Serve as the primary culture and leadership lead for the Captains group
- Set and reinforce expectations for behavior, language, and peer interaction
- Address entitlement, dominance, or disengagement early and consistently
- Model leadership behaviors expected of older campers
- Develop and Manage teen curriculum
- Support counselors assigned to Captains with guidance and consistency
- Ensure Captains remain positively engaged and do not undermine camp culture
What Success Looks Like
- Camp feels joyful, structured, and emotionally safe
- Transitions remain calm and efficient
- Teen model appropriate behavior and leadership for younger campers
- Peer dynamics within the Teen group are managed proactively
- Inclusion and fairness are consistently reinforced across camp
Required
- Experience leading large groups of children or adolescents in camps, schools, or youth organizations
- Demonstrated success working with pre-teens or early teens (ages 11–14)
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to regulate group energy
- Comfort setting boundaries and holding older campers accountable
- Ability to model leadership and maturity consistently
- Availability for the full season and required training dates
Preferred
- Experience in youth leadership development, mentoring, or middle school environments
- Background in social-emotional learning, coaching, or facilitation
Seasonal Commitment & Training Required Dates: April 3, May 25, June 1–6
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Nine hours per day
- Full season availability required
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience working with children or in youth programs
- Ability to manage fast paced operations
- Confident decision making and problem solving skills
- Reliable attendance and professional conduct
- Ability to supervise staff and groups of children
- Level 2 background check required
