Dishwasher/Kitchen Assistant
Direct Supervisor- Shift Leader
Other Supervisors- Kitchen Director, Director of Summer Camp Ministries
Purpose of Position- To ensure all dishes, pots, pans and utensils are cleaned expeditiously and restocked for reuse. This position involves a variety of other jobs that would assist the shift leader and the assistant cook, such as product delivery and restocking and setting up and breaking down the salad bar, along with various other chores.
Prerequisites:
1. Must be a minimum of 14 years of age. Must be able to follow through with directions and possess a willingness to learn.
Qualifications:
1. Prior kitchen experience is not necessary; however, you must have a desire to be trained in proper kitchen procedures and follow through with instructions.
2. If you are under the age of 18, you must obtain a Youth Employment Certificate (essentially a workers permit). Parents must participate in the employment process.
3. You must be willing to do a background check, and a preemployment drug test, as well as a random test if asked during the season. Parents must agree to this process. Parents will be a part of the employment
4. All documents and permits must be submitted to Administration in order to be Onboarded for employment. No one will be allowed to begin any shift at camp until they have been onboarded.
5. You will be required to take a short Serve Safe Class and obtain a certificate to present to the Kitchen Director.
6. It is important to arrive to your shift on time and not leave before your shift ends. Commit to your shift schedule and communicate to the Kitchen Director of any emergency changes.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a consistent flow of dishes so that the meal service does not get delayed.
2. Frequently check the water and Gatorade coolers to make sure they are kept full, check the ice bin and refill if necessary.
3. Check the napkin holders, the salt and pepper at the beginning of your shift and refill if necessary. At night after dinner service, the salt and pepper shakers will be removed to a container and placed in the kitchen. The napkin holders will also be placed in a box and stored away in the kitchen.
4. If on breakfast shift assist in the set up for breakfast and the breakdown of the yogurt bar, the service bar after breakfast is over. If you serve during lunch and dinner, you will assist in setting up the salad bar and breaking down the salad bar after lunch and dinner, as well as bring in the pans in the service bar.
5. You may be responsible for wiping down the salad bar and the service bar.
6. You may be required to check supplies in the staff bathroom, toilet paper and paper towels, as well as emptying the trash can.
7. You will be responsible to remove the full trash bags in the kitchen trash cans as well as the dining hall placing all bags in the carts behind the kitchen and when those are full take the carts to the dumpster and dispose of the bags.
8. You may be asked to assist in checking in products as they are delivered by our weekly truck, and you may be required to assist in restocking the products where they are to go.
9. This list is not inclusive of the duties of this position and must have a willingness to accept the duties when the need arises.
10. Must be willing to perform the chores and equipment checks as shown, according to the lists posted.
11. You must make sure your work area is cleaned up to the best of your ability at the end of your shift so that the incoming shift has a clean area to work in.
**Remember we are here to serve the camp. Food speaks a different type of ministry. We want you to enjoy what you do and the friendships that develop in such a short period of time. We encourage you to start each shift with prayer if you desire but it is not mandatory. Remember you represent Camp Albemarle, but most important we want to shine like the Lord.
