Job Overview
This is a full-time, on-site Cook position at El Tiempo Cantina Galveston. Our Cooks are responsible for preparing and producing the restaurant's hot food items in support of daily kitchen operations. This role focuses on cooking, batch production, recipe execution, and maintaining consistent quality to ensure the service line is fully stocked and ready for lunch and dinner service.
Responsibilities include preparing food according to standardized recipes, monitoring product quality throughout production, operating commercial kitchen equipment safely, and ensuring all food is properly cooled, labeled, stored, and rotated in accordance with food safety standards. Cooks work closely with Kitchen Managers, Grill Cooks, and the rest of the culinary team to maintain an organized, efficient, and high-performing kitchen.
Successful candidates are dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple production tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining consistency, attention to detail, cleanliness, and a commitment to exceptional food quality.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook hot food items according to standardized recipes and company specifications.
- Produce high-quality food in sufficient quantities to support lunch and dinner service.
- Ensure food is prepared consistently while meeting El Tiempo's standards for quality, flavor, and presentation.
- Maintain appropriate production levels and replenish food as needed throughout the shift.
- Follow all recipes, portion standards, and production procedures.
- Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment and maintain a clean, organized workstation.
- Monitor food quality, temperatures, and freshness throughout production.
- Properly cool, label, date, rotate, and store all products in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Maintain compliance with all health department sanitation and HACCP procedures.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking kitchen inventory as needed.
- Communicate effectively with Kitchen Managers, Grill Cooks, and other kitchen team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by completing assigned cleaning and closing duties.
- Assist with additional food production and kitchen responsibilities as business needs require.
- Work efficiently during high-volume periods while maintaining attention to detail and consistency.
- Report equipment issues, product shortages, or food quality concerns to management promptly.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant or food service experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to follow recipes, production procedures, and quality standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
- Strong work ethic with dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
