JOB TITLE: Certified Surgical Technologist

SHIFT: FTE 0.8 1st Shift (64 hours bi-weekly), Required to take call

JOB SUMMARY

Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure.

Essential Functions

• Exemplifies good customer service.
• Demonstrates knowledge of perioperative factors that might alter the perioperative phase.
• Ensures sterile and aseptic technique when opening supplies, setting up for procedures, and maintains throughout procedure.
• Proficient at cleaning of operating room before and between cases.
• Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles) and follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count according to policy.
• Proficient at setting up the sterile field with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for the procedure, as well as passing of those instruments and supplies during the procedure.
• Maintains an orderly and sterile instrument table for the purpose of efficiency and safety.
• Performs all aspects of patient care, within scope of practice, in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors for patients and staff.
• Reports any breach in sterility to surgeon and circulating RN per policy.
• Follows written procedure for steam sterilization, understanding of chemical and biological monitoring.
• Completes annual education and regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulation

Qualifications

Experience

• Minimal of 12-week clinical rotation experience required

Skills/Competencies

• Knowledge of sterile technique.
• Knowledge of operating room procedures.
• Willing to learn usage of new equipment and techniques.

Education 

• High School graduate
• Completion of accredited surgical technologist program (Associates Degree)

License

• None

Certifications 

• Currently certified as a Certified Surgical Technologist
• Current CPR certification
